BIOGRAPHY
TJ Wright is a multidisciplinary artist raised in Miami, Florida. He began his creative career working in on-screen performance, and has since shifted his practice into the exploration of image making, material, and performance–developing narrative-driven work that draws from ephemerality, disjointed family structures, and South Florida's hyper-industrial rhetoric.
His work has been exhibited across notable South Florida galleries, including Oolite Arts, ICA Miami, The Bass, The Rubell Museum, and Laundromat Art Space.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My home, Miami, has historically been defined by its obsession with construction development.
Over time, I’ve begun to mirror a similar obsession.
As, mostly, unnecessary developments envelop South Florida, they latch themselves onto structures I had never cared about until tomorrow, and when tomorrow does come, I feel the need for yesterday.
Through multidisciplinary approaches—sculpture, installation, video, printmaking, textiles, performance, and photography—I use my practice to record and reconstruct different shifts occurring within quotidian domestic interaction. Weaving threads across familiar and unfamiliar structures; I am interested in exploring the ways in which the inevitable passing of time creates absences, challenging the shape of our efforts.
My work exists both as final pieces and documentation of its own making; My formal art training began in photography and performance, so I concern myself with expanding these mediums into conceptual forms.
I am particularly interested in found material, drawing directly from my environment, both physically and observationally.
In the long term, I seek to create exchanges that address the multi-dimensions of collective ephemerality.
